A Measure Of A Character

June 27, 2013

Adam has a new essay up on Jar Jar:

Jar Jar Binks is a bumbler and a stumbler. He’s a lethal klutz, though this makes him just as likely to cause successes as failures, albeit with his usual flair. He’s cowardly and sarcastic, but he’s got a good soul. This combination has so much potential and can work in so many different arenas. The possibilities are near endless. And to me at least, hilarious.

Ahmed Best In The Offspring’s “Want You Bad”

June 27, 2013

Ahmed Best appears in a video for The Offpsring’s single from 2000, “Want You Bad.” Keep your eyes peeled for the guy who stares at a can until it explodes foam all over him, just over a minute into the video:

More Slow Posting

I’m going to be sort of offline the next week. I don’t know if I’ll have wifi or internet connection where I’m staying, so please be patient!

Special Darth Maul Clone Wars Screening At CEII

June 27, 2013

Lucky ducks going to Celebration Europe II not only will get to see AOTC 3D, but will also get the chance to see the Maul arc from Clone Wars edited together as a single feature!

At this rate, they’ll just have the casts of all six movies do a surprise appearance onstage and do a Rockettes show. Sheesh.

Facebook Woes

June 26, 2013

You may or may not have heard about at least one fan page, Retro Star Wars, being stuck in the Facebook gulag. People have been unable to find the page much less update anything. There are rumors about other fan pages, including non-Star Wars ones, getting the plug pulled in the same manner.

I’ve noticed that over the past day or so, I’ve had trouble posting updates on the SWPAS Facebook page. Occasionally a short sentence goes through and I can share things, but not much more than that. I have NOT received a notice that the SWPAS FB has been unpublished. I’ve just sent a complaint to Facebook but we’ll see if I ever get a reply.

Whatever is happening to Facebook fan pages, it is NOT coming from Lucasfilm or Disney. It is also not affecting PERSONAL pages, just fan pages for different things.

So keep visiting here for updates and the SWPAS tumblr for pix galore!

Midichlorians In One Simple Post

June 24, 2013

The official Star Wars.com blog has a new post from J.W. Rinzler called What The Heck Are Midichlorians?

“Midi-chlorians are like a single entity: meaning each one doesn’t think individually and have a life to itself; they think as a unit because there’s so many of them and they’re everywhere. They’re in every single cell [italics added]. And sometimes there’s more than one in a cell. Sometimes there’s a whole bunch in a cell. But there has to be at least one in a cell, otherwise the cell can’t reproduce. All cells. Plant cells. Every life form has a midi-chlorian living inside of them.” [italics added]

Darth Maul Goes To Jail

June 21, 2013

Random House has posted a summary of the upcoming Star Wars: Maul: Lockdown by Joe Schreiber, the guy who brought you those zombie Star Wars novels. It looks like it takes place in the same prison and it’s a follow-up to “Darth Plagueis.” Coming your way in January!

Perspective on Padmé

June 20, 2013

This follow-up post to Tricia Barr’s Padmé essay from the current Star Wars Insider discusses a little girl’s affection for everybody’s favorite tragic heroine. Coincidentally I’d written a post for a long-gone personal blog shortly after AOTC came out that was called something like “Padmé: She Rocks, She Reigns, She Rules” on why I thought she was a great character. One of the reasons I cited was that she was a nice person, someone who showed kindness and respect to everyone.

Ewan: Band Geek

June 20, 2013

Long before Ewan McGregor took up acting, much less joined the Star Wars family, he played the French horn live on Scottish television. Enjoy this clip from when Ewan was 16. Hey, he played it better than I would have:
