Yoda raps and dances

The ROTS DVD Easter Egg was a break from the blooper reels included on the TPM, AOTC, and classic/Imperial trilogy DVDs. Instead, ILM let Yoda cut loose ;).

The Smilin’ Jedi

Talk about a happy warrior! Kit Fisto’s few seconds of fame in AOTC quickly made him a fan favorite, earning him further adventures in comics, both the ’03 and the new CW series, and in ROTS. Unfortunately, he wasn’t smiling anymore after he encountered Darth Sidious.

First seen in a SW comic in 1995, the double-lightsaber made its cinematic debut with TPM. The first time we saw Darth Maul switch on the double blades in the November 1998 trailer, we just said, “Wow!”

Padmé’s Ruminations

A haunting track from ROTS, it beautifully compliments one of the saga’s finest scenes, where Anakin and Padmé are gazing toward one another from afar as he makes his fateful decision to ensure the Jedi don’t kill Palpatine/Sidious.

If it works

Who knew this bit of banter between Anakin and Padmé during their picnic frolic would turn out to be so important? Not only is there something unsettling in Anakin’s eyes as he says he’s okay with a dictatorship if it works, it highlights the fundamental difference between the two of them that will tear them apart in ROTS.

PT Daily Awesomes 9/11

September 11, 2008

Since I didn’t post yesterday, here are two “daily awesomes” from the PT.

I LOVE this bit from ROTS. In fact, fan site Galactic Binder named it as one of its bad*** SW moments. Yoda may be 900 years oldish but he is still one deadly mo-fo. The animators at ILM must have had a field day with having Yoda chuck his lightsaber like a spear into the heart of a clonetrooper, then before the clone could hit the ground in a heap, Yoda leaps on to his body and rips out the lightsaber. Brutal!

I forgot who made these tie-dye t-shirts back in the 1990s. Somehow the Grateful Dead/Phish world had a head-on collision with SW fandom right around 1997, spouting a whole bunch of (dare I say) loud t-shirts with big graphics and psychedelic blends of color. I remember these shirts were by 1990s standards expensive, around $25-35 apiece, but yours truly bought a few! The TPM ones where the last of the line but IMO, they were probably the coolest ones. I still have the above t-shirt but my favorite is the maroon-colored collage of Queen Amidala’s different costumes.

This party’s over

Got this inspiration from a top 100 PT scenes thread on TFN as well as the piccie. Just when Count Dooku thinks he’s got the PT3 cornered, in comes the supercool Mace Windu. You can practically hear the theme from Shaft in the background. This is why fans love Samuel L. Jackson in the role; he has “bad you-know-what” written all over him.

Nice boots

Is there any footwear more stylish and sexy than the PT-era Jedi boots? I think not.

I was not elected to watch my people suffer and die while you discuss this invasion in a committee

It’s rare you see Padmé Amidala angry, but here she is ticked off. Who can blame her when she’s faced with a Senate full of doofuses and people on the take? Sadly, she takes some bad advice from Palpatine, but she is also strong and determined. Nice bit of acting from Natalie.

Vader’s shadow

Debuting in November 1998, the teaser poster for TPM showed in one stunning image Anakin’s innocence and his eventual fate. It was the first photo poster for any SW film, reflecting how film promotion has changed since the late 1970s-early 1980s.
