Getting Your Father-In-Law To Love Count Dooku

April 25, 2017

Clickhole has a quiz on whether you can redeem Count Dooku in the eyes of your father in law.

For the record, it said I would totally pull it off.

General Grievous Coming Soon From Bandai

April 24, 2017

Star Wars The Prequel Trilogy (on Facebook) posted a couple of pictures of Bandai’s upcoming General Grievous 6-inch scale model figure.  It’s fully articulated:

Expect it out sometime this year.  I hope I’ll get to see it at SDCC this summer.

Chick Stuff

Lucasfilm announced today a new cartoon/book series called Forces Of Destiny, which is better than “Star Wars Babes” or “Star Wars Gurlzzz” or something because it’s all about the females of Star Wars.

There will be eight animated shorts, each starring a Star Wars heroine:  Rey, Jyn Erso, Leia (duh), Padmé (surprise!), Ahsoka (duh), Hera, and Sabine.  Some in the same era might meet.  Maz Kanata narrates.

Interestingly enough, Disney wrote a big enough checkbook to get Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones, and Lupita Nyong’o to reprise their roles along with the respective voice actresses from Rebels.  But not big enough to bring in La Nat, so it’ll be Catherine Taber playing Padmé again.  Shelby Young will be voicing Leia.

Episodes will appear on YouTube in July and more will air on the Disney Channel this fall.  Hasbro is going to make a 12″ line to go with the series but I don’t see a Padmé in that bunch.  Grr…

More Star Words & Music

April 11, 2017

Here are couple of new entries from Matril on the PT…

The newest Star Words focuses on one of Qui-Gon’s lines from early in TPM:

But wait! Isn’t Qui-Gon supposed to be the compassionate one, kind to all creatures great and small? Well, yes and no. Qui-Gon follows the gentle ways of the living Force, but he’s also very pragmatic. He ultimately accepts Jar Jar’s dubious offers of help because he realizes the Gungan can lead them to a safe hiding place. Later, he lets Jar Jar tag along because he senses that he may eventually be of some use. Perhaps he also pities him and feels it is the right, moral choice to rescue him from the brutal punishment of the Gungan bosses…but that appears to be secondary to accomplishing a larger mission. As the film continues, we can see that Qui-Gon’s confident single-mindedness can be very abrasive. He butts heads with a number of characters because of it, including Obi-Wan, Padmé, and the entire Jedi council. He doesn’t go out of his way to be mean, but he’s just not concerned with being well-liked.

Here she is playing a couple of relevant tunes from the prequels:

Essay: The Wisdom Of Qui-Gon Jinn

March 30, 2017

The Wisdom Of Qui-Gon Jinn was posted a few weeks ago but I finally read it today.  Again, more love for everyone’s favorite maverick hippie Jedi:

Qui-Gon Jinn as played by Liam Neeson in the Phantom Menace is one of the most curious characters in the entire Star Wars saga. Little understood and frequently misunderstood, I thought it was an appropriate time to take a look at this character who is both one of my favourite from the series and also one of the most interesting.

Star Words Part Three

March 30, 2017

Matril is back with another installment of her series, this time it’s about one of Queen Amidala’s more famous lines from early in TPM:

It’s already too late. Amidala’s words are all very well as a pacifist ideal, but in the face of an actual invasion, they can’t do a bit of good. Whether she wanted to lead her people to war or not, war has come. And whether it’s her fault or not, she must deal with the consequences.

Essay On Qui-Gon

March 26, 2017

This was posted on Future of the Force on St. Paddy’s Day but I didn’t see it until now:

Qui-Gon Jinn. The wisest of Jedi, and an advocate of the living Force. A critical voice to the Republic’s Jedi Council. A voice in the wilderness, in a period increasingly dominated by bureaucracy, rules and regulation. Qui-Gon was convinced that Anakin was the Chosen One, the one who would bring balance back to the Force.

Essay Defends Mace Windu

March 18, 2017

Everyone’s favorite bad mo-fo Jedi Master gets some love from this Crossing Sabers essay:

We would expect the Jedi to commune with the Force in order to divine what purpose or action they should apply the clone army to, but instead we see them rush into battle and try to squelch the fledgling Separatist movement with sheer force. When you combine this with Mace’s acknowledgment that their ability to use the Force has diminished, we get our next key: Mace is trying the best he can even though he can see the foundations of the Jedi starting to crumble.
