SyFy Wire On Jar Jar

December 10, 2017

Bryan Young wrote a nice piece about Jar Jar for SyFy Wire:

By keeping Jar Jar around for his goodness rather than potential worth, Qui-Gon enables Queen Amidala to see a side of the Gungans to which the prejudice of her people had closed her off. Because of this, Jar Jar brings her to the Gungans and unites their people. It saved Naboo, Gungans and Humans alike, from Palpatine’s machinations.

This is a classic story in mythology: the creature you’re nice to will unexpectedly help you in the end. Beauty and the Beast teaches the opposite version with the idea that the “worthless” person to whom you’re awful has the power to curse you.

What Happened To Captain Panaka After TPM?

December 8, 2017

By Liam Bailey

During the events of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, we discovered Captain Panaka, the security captain Queen Amidala’s forces. After the events of the film, Panaka was never seen again in the following films which left fans wondering what actually happened to him. Well, I have found the answers.

“Your Highness, this is a battle I do not think that we can win.”―Quarsh Panaka, to Queen Padmé Amidala during the Battle of Naboo.

Quarsh Panaka was a native of the planet Naboo. He was a security forces captain who served the Royal House of Naboo during the final years of the Galactic Republic. When the Trade Federation invaded Naboo during the events of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Panaka fled the planet, alongside Queen Padmé Amidala to Tatooine and then Coruscant before ultimately returning to Naboo in order to liberate their homeworld from under the siege of Nute Gunray and his separatist army.

Panaka remained in Amidala’s service. When her two terms were over, Amidala became senator of Naboo, and Panaka stepped down from his functions as her personal bodyguard, making way for his nephew Gregar Typho. He did, however, continue his services as head of Security under Queen Jamillia. During the Clone Wars, a three-year conflict that pitted the Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Panaka met Viceroy Bail Organa of Alderaan several times.

“Panaka’s loyalty to Palpatine was great. Still, he was as good a man as anyone in the Emperor’s inner circle could ever be, and much better than most. Panaka was… an option I wish had been left open to us.”―Breha Organa

Immediately after the Clone Wars, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine abolished the Republic and replaced it with the Galactic Empire, a government solely controlled by himself. Panaka remained loyal to the newly anointed Emperor and was made the Moff, or governor, of his native Chommell sector.

In 3 BBY, Panaka met with both Queen Dolne of Naboo and Princess Leia or Alderaan. As the meeting progressed, Panaka became to suspect that Leia was, in fact, the long-lost daughter of Padme Amidala who he formerly served. It was intended that he was going to inform the emperor of his findings, but a bomb exploded in his chalet, destroying the building and subsequently killing him in the process. It was discovered that the bomb was planted by the infamous Saw Gerrera and his Partisans.

Forever 21 has carried trend-driven OT SW stuff for the past few years but it finally dropped this iconic Queen Amidala t-shirt.  For a mere $15.90!  I ordered one for myself and it has a looser cut than most juniors tees so feel free to go with your normal size.

I hope to find more prequel F21 stuff in the future!

The Real Origin Of Anakin’s Name?

November 9, 2017

For years there have been theories on where George Lucas got the idea for Anakin’s name.  The most common one I’ve heard was that it was from the late director Ken Annakin.  But Jett Lucas apparently revealed the origins of Anakin’s name was from Greek mythology.  From Naboo News: (originally from Star Wars.com)

Jett recently told me a very interesting character tidbit about Anakin, and the origin of his name: Anakin is based off the Greek goddess of inevitability, Ananke. This made me stop in my tracks. That was what I was always feeling. The slow, burning throttle of inevitability.

The above link also has a neat quote from Wikipedia about Ananke. Very interesting! You learn something new every day.
