Hot Toys Anakin Up For Pre-Order

August 29, 2017

Sideshow is putting up Hot Toys’ glorious Anakin Skywalker sixth scale figure for pre-order.  It’s expensive–$235–but you can opt for a payment plan over 2-4 months with a small down payment.  I opted for a three month payment plan of about $71 a month over a three month period.

A Couple of Interesting Reads

July 30, 2017

First this look at Anakin and Padmé’s relationship that asserts in many ways she serves as a substitute for Shmi.  I think this is true although I don’t concur with everything in this piece.  See what you think!

And while I was busy with SDCC and being out of town, Matril posted her piece on a rather famous line from TPM.

Forces of Destiny: The Padawan Path

Heeere’s Ahsoka! Co-starring a mysteriously unscarred Anakin.

Uh, Where’s Padmé?

June 25, 2017

The Wookiee Gunner posted images and info on the upcoming Forces of Destiny line meant to tie in with the animated series.  Looks like wave 1 consists of Disney chicks only, with two different Leias coming out sometime after that.  Allegedly Ahsoka is due out “later this year.”

One character conspicuously absent is Padmé, even though she is supposed to be featured in the Forces of Destiny series.  Of course, it’s not the first time they’ve had amnesia on the prequel trilogy’s main heroine…

Star Words IX: Shmi On Slavery, The Republic

May 26, 2017

Matril posted another installment of her Star Words series, this time focusing on one of Shmi Skywalker’s lines in TPM:

Much of Shmi’s importance in the overall story of the saga resides in her influence on Anakin — her presence during his childhood, but especially her absence once he leaves to become a Jedi. It’s always a tricky thing to create a character whose primary impact comes from her absence and death (and the use of “her” isn’t a coincidence — it’s overwhelmingly women who are placed in this role). All too often, the character is nothing more than a plot device, underdeveloped, her special place in the hero’s heart implicit rather than explicitly developed. But Shmi’s portrayal is saved from this danger by an excellent performance from Pernilla August and the details the story reveals of her personality and experiences.
