Random Stuff

January 31, 2016

Funko said a few days ago on Twitter that it is going to “explore the prequel era” in its Smuggler’s Bounty boxes:

Here’s some cool PT art.

For those of you who collect the Timeline game, Asmodee Spain is going to release a prequel edition.

Star Wars: Galactic Defense Developer Diary – Part 1 on Disney Video

The Star Wars: Galactic Defense game developer diary shows that they are going to use prequel era settings/characters.

And action figure collectors might want to keep an eye out for Jango Fett.

Ewan On His “Reprise” As Obi-Wan (Sorta)

January 29, 2016

Ewan McGregor appeared recently on the Jimmy Kimmel show and spoke about his quickie voiceover work for TFA.  It was literally at the last minute.

A lot of Clone Wars and Rebels voice actors were used for small post-production dubbing and according to James Arnold Taylor, his voice had been recorded at least as a placeholder until they went with a little bit of Alec Guinness and a little bit more of Ewan.

George Lucas’s References

January 29, 2016

Someone on Reddit did something worthwhile and compiled a list of reference books and novels seen in the background of an old web doc on George Lucas writing TPM (“All I Need Is An Idea”).

The books are a very interesting mix of child psychology, gnosticism, folklore, science fiction novels, and mythology, plus basic reference material.

Here’s the webdoc:

Old News, But Unfortunate News

January 28, 2016

It might have been because I was avoiding spoilers, noise, and overheated hype over TFA last month but that’s when they quietly slipped out the news that Marvel’s “Kanan:  The Last Padawan” was ending with the 12th issue.

The book is based on the “Rebels” series and perhaps a character from a two-year old animated show that has less than a million viewers per week isn’t strong enough for sales.  (Am I the only person who thinks it’s weird how they canceled Clone Wars for a show so obviously on second or third tier status with Disney?  Why bother with an animated show when it’s only the movies that matter?)  But it was also the only ongoing series set in the prequel era.  That’s why I said it was important we support “Obi-Wan & Anakin.”  The comics are pretty good about utilizing lore from the prequel films overall but if you don’t buy the ones specifically set during those films, not only will we never see new titles we might start to see any PT references disappear from the others as well.

Real-Life Podracing

January 28, 2016

Quartz, a science site, has a story about a drone racing league:

Hurtling 70 mph around tight corners and narrow straightaways, jostling for position against other racers, your favorite racer closes in on the finish line. You watch him round the final turn, but he cuts it a little too tightly and crashes into a concrete wall, smashing into a million pieces.

Okay, so it’s only 70 mph as opposed to 600 mph and no one’s life is at immediate risk but it still sounds like fun.

Is Anakin Skywalker Othello?

January 26, 2016

A fan made a video comparing Anakin Skywalker with William Shakespeare’s tragic hero Othello:

Family Circus Strip

January 25, 2016

Someone on the FB page mentioned that last Sunday’s Family Circus strip had a ROTS reference, so I checked it out.

Fan Art That Will Give You The Feels

January 23, 2016

It’s funny because I follow anakinspadme on Twitter but I didn’t see this vid until someone posted it on the SWPAS FB page:

And this is a post from lisuli79 (though I’m not sure if she’s the artist or not):

TPM Plushies On The Way

January 21, 2016

Anakin And His Angel posted pics of several upcoming Star Wars “tsum tsum” plush toys from Disney, including characters from TPM:  lil’ Anakin, Jar Jar, Sebulba, Queen Amidala, Maul, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan.

I haven’t been collecting the “tsum tsums,” which are Japanese-style plush toys, but according to AAHA, they are sold at the Disney Store and Disney’s online shop and they tend to sell out fast.  Since they’re only $6 apiece, I guess it makes it easy to buy entire sets.  The OT tsum tsums are due out on Feb. 16.  No date yet has been announced for the TPM ones.

Star Wars Prequel Appreciation Day 2016

January 19, 2016

What?!  It’s only January and Prequel Appreciation Day is May 19!  Why am I thinking about this stuff now?

Well, I thought I’d mix it up this year and ask you, the people, what they would like to see for this year’s Prequel Appreciation Day.   If you have ideas, I’d like to see them in the comments!
