At least the prequels brought something new and fresh to the table. At least the prequels took risks. At least the prequels could stand on its own two feet. At least George didn’t care what the fans thought because he was telling his story they way it was meant to be told all along.
It really speaks volumes how no one can say anything positive about this movie on its own merits. From dragging the prequels to constantly saying how it’s getting back to “it’s roots”, hardly anyone can say “yeah this movie turned out good just on its own.”
We’re in the home stretch. Cast and crew better enjoy these next 6 days because things could get extremely better for them or disastrously worse for them.

You have a point: I have not read many comments by the cast and crew that praised the movie on its own merits. Whether this is really a bad sign will be revealed in a couple of days.
Anyway, I hope that the movie will (at least) be entertaining. But if it throws the PT under the bus,…

YES. Other than nostalgia (which I don’t care about considering my age and when I saw the saga) for the OT and being better than the prequels (we’ll seeeeeee), tell me why I should want to see this movie.
I can’t wait tbh. If it’s good, I’ll enjoy it. If it sucks, I’m petty enough to enjoy the schadenfreude. *popping dat popcorn*

Adam Driver mentioned the prequels on a day when he was doing work and press for a charity he cofounded and feels passionately about since he was a former Marine, Arts in the Armed Forces. He was not doing press for Star Wars and the press was not asking him about Star Wars. At the minute when he makes his comments he is talking to soldiers and telling them about an event that he and the other actors are hosting in the chapel. His back is generally away from the camera as Adam Driver is having his conversations. Then the soldiers start asking him about Star Wars and one asks him for his opinion, “Is it better than the prequels?” Right after Adam Driver answers he notices the camera and has a look on his face like, ‘Oh ****! I didn’t see you there!’ Adam Driver has an opinion about the prequels and thanks to eavesdropping we now know what it is.
So don’t blame Adam Driver. Blame VICE News who for some reason included this in their video, even though it had nothing to do with what Adam Driver was pushing for that day.
And Greg Weisman has been writing one of the better current Star Wars works and the only current output taking place in the prequel era, until the Obi Wan and Anakin comic comes out in January.

The Star Wars ambassador post was originally from May 2014; Weisman has done a really good job with the Kanan comics and I haven’t heard a peep about him since. (Hey, it’s why I write these things…how’s anyone going to learn his lesson otherwise?)
Out in public is being out in public. If you’re involved in this thing, you better learn that fast even if you think you are “among friends.”

Sometimes the distinction between public and private is not always clear, or at the very least people don’t seem to agree on where to draw the line. Is it moral to record what someone says in a bar or at church?
I mean, I don’t know. I listened to Adam Driver’s interview with Howard Stern and it sounds like he really appreciated his time in the military and the camaraderie there and he would likely be with them if it weren’t for his bike injury. Its worrisome if his opinion would impact his performance in the film, but there’s been no indication of that, at least that I’m aware of.

This has nothing to do with Driver’s service or any of his charitable work. I have not criticized any that.

I don’t really give a fuck about anything concerning Driver. I don’t care about his acting, I don’t care about his military service, I don’t care what he thinks about the prequels, and I don’t care if it’s good or bad what he says about them in public.

I totally agree with that third paragraph (and the rest of it, didn’t know Weisman was a prequel-hater also, that’s too bad. I actually like rebels and the kanan comic series).
I’m fine with him having an opinion, but like you said, when you’re out in public and people know you’re in star wars I think it would be best if he at least tried to respect the prequels.

I think Weisman has chilled a bit since then. The Kanan comics series is really well done and I don’t think he could’ve done that good of a job if he was a total hater.

Well that’s good to hear. Maybe he learned his lesson, and maybe working on the comic helped him gain a certain respect for the universe and story that Lucas created with the prequels

Firefly! Seriously! I hate that show. It’s so overrated. pretty much anything by Joss Whedon is overrated.
Okay, I couldn’t get into “FIREFLY”. Honestly . . . I really tried. But it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I have mixed feelings about “AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.”. However, I was a big fan of both “BUFFY” and “ANGEL”.

Adam Driver was a Marine! Wow, I have mad respect for this guy now. They do the most dangerous job in the world, and they get treated poorly by civilians all the time for doing it. Meanwhile, actors have a relatively easy job, and get treated like they’re the bomb diggity! That’s life.
There will, however, be some fun stories about him on the set, since he’s a method actor. Supposedly he wouldn’t take the mask off in-between takes. He probably treated the other actors, crew, and craft services like Kylo Ren would…like crap!

I didn’t see exactly what he said about the prequels, but we should cut him some slack, since he was doing charity work here. However, he will quickly learn that things have changed for him now that he’s a big star. Everything he does and says now will be reported in the press. It goes with the territory, ask Harrison Ford how much he likes it.

Yeah that has seemed to be a trend with this new era of SW, that there are some people involved with the franchise that openly bash half of it. Hey if the PT isn’t their thing, then fine. That is their choice. But once they become part of the franchise they need to at least respect it. Because it isn’t only the movies getting bashed but the fans of those films as well.
I mean Simon Pegg is a prime example. He bashed people for not liking the ST:ITD film. So there shows you that people do take offense when something they enjoy gets bashed. I personally don’t see this getting better anytime soon. I am from the OT era and most of the people that bash on the PT in public seem to be from the same era(OT) I really do get embarrassed by being from that same generation sometimes. But a lot of these older and jaded fans should take note from the younger generation about how to be tolerant and respectful.

I totally agree with your comments. It is bad enough that we have to deal with all the fanboy haters and bashers of the Prequels that we have to get it from celebrities that work within the industry. I am sick and tired of the likes of Simon Pegg and Gary Whitta who use their position in the media to bash the Prequels. And now Adam Driver, who stares in this new movie Episode VII: TFA, is now supposedly have said something negative against the Prequels. And if he did say something negative then my opinion of Adam Driver has gone down.
You are totally right that when people criticize the Prequels it ends up being an insult towards oneself. I absolutely hate Simon Pegg’s movie “Paul”, now imagine if there was a cultural outcry of hate that I have towards that movie, like there is towards the Prequels, now imagine how Simon Pegg would deal with it. He would probably be cursing all the fanbase out there, or anyone in the industry for that matter who criticizes his film. I want to know when will the bashing of the Prequels will end, and they get some kind of cultural respect that they deserve! I hope that this new Sequel Trilogy will not be a spring board to re-inflate all the hate and bashing of the Prequels that we experienced over the previous decade.

Yes I agree. But the good thing I see here is that the new film reviews aren’t all “OMG TEH BEST EVA” like I thought they would be. Their has been mostly positive with a mix of so-so and meh. But I have been no fan of the marketing or TPTB in regards to all this. So as far as the film for me, I want to just view that unbiased as possible. Because it is still a SW movie and it can’t help who is on the other side of the camera. I also do it because it is again a SW movie. Meaning that the SW brand is still Lucas’ creation and now his legacy. No haters can ever take that away from him. As for Pegg, well I don’t really care for him at all. He should really take a look at his own film history before knocking other peoples films. If he wants to look at his film history well most of his films can be found in bargain bins and dollar racks around the world. See at least I gave him some assistance on how to find his films. So all of us PT lovers ain’t such bad folks! lol
