The Saga Begins

Not in the movie itself, but a big part of the summer of 1999 all the same. Not only was it great to see a filk chart a hit, it’s probably one of Weird Al’s best.

Grievous’s baton twirlers

You have to admit the Magna Guards from ROTS (and now CW) are pretty cool. Their graceful fighting style sets them apart from the other droid nemeses our Jedi heroes face and like the droidekas, actually make the Jedi break a sweat to beat them.

Jedi Bait

Padmé’s va-va-va-voom leather black corset and skirt is not only the equivalent of waving a raw steak in front of a hungry rancor, it’s also very fashionable. One of my favorite costumes from the entire series.

The Naboo N-1 Fighter

The most elegant starfighter in the SW saga, it represented the aesthetically-conscious Naboo culture and the pre-Imperial appreciation for beauty. I saw one of the life-sized models at the Smithsonian during a short exhibit in 2001. It was pretty cool, although I was amazed to learn the shiny stuff on the nacelles was actually regular aluminum foil!

Size Matters Not

I saw this on another post about Star Wars posters and it reminded me of how much I liked this particular one issued for the November 2002 re-release of AOTC in IMAX format. Sure, they hacked the movie to pieces and it was only released in a few cities across the country (fortunately, Washington, D.C. was one of them, where I was living at the time) but you gotta love this poster!

Best space battle ever

I love the synchronized flying between Obi-Wan and Anakin but I also love the camera angles. ILM was seriously showing off here ;).

Tall and slender

Kaminoans are among the coolest aliens ever created for the SW saga. ILM did such a great job creating them, it’s still hard to believe they were entirely computer-generated. Check out the closeups in AOTC where you can see skin texture on their faces!

Tall, graceful, and polite, they’re also hopelessly amoral.

Something elusive

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love the way Ewan McGregor pronounces the word “elusive” in one of TPM’s first scenes.

Sith In Your Eyes

One of the most arresting images from the saga, we see Anakin completely possessed by the Dark Side as he assassinates the Separatist leaders.

Note: I’m posting these Mon. through Fri. instead of seven days a week because of the fact most people read this only on weekdays anyway.

Sonic boom

The most amazing sound effect ever. Supposedly Ben Burtt had this one on file for decades, intending to use it in ANH but didn’t have the opportunity until AOTC.
