Revenge Of The Dank Memes

I don’t spend too much time on Reddit but I found out today through the magic of social media about /r/PrequelMemes.  According to Mashable, the subreddit has 134,000 and counting subscribers and has been the fastest growing non-default subreddit twice this past month.

As an aside, I have to disagree with a few things in the Mashable piece:  the prequels don’t need “saving,” not everybody hated them, and not everybody doing these have political motives.  I see it as fans finally finding their own space to freely celebrate their love of the movies without a bunch of douchebags telling them they’re wrong and stupid.  And on various “sithposting” pages on Facebook, there are a lot of prequel memes too.

Not everyone on the subreddit is a prequel fan per se but it seems after taking a look at several pages’ worth of entries, most of it is about having fun with the movies.  People routinely quote the movies in their comments.  This being Reddit, not all of the memes are family-friendly or politically-correct and a few are kind of NSFW.  So venture at your own risk.

But now I have this to use:

the only saving the prequels need are from disgruntled fans critics and disney

-_- Has anyone else noticed their is a panel in bullying in the Fandom at Star Wars Celebration? Meanwhile most of what is there is Disney Star Wars. The most we get is Mark Hamill and Denis Lawson for the OT and nothing for the prequels.

I suspect they plan on some supposed bullying talks about females or gays being harassed. What I would like to see is someone challenging them about how fans of every group are bullied and insulted just for enjoying the prequels. And oh yeah..some of it is coming from their employees…like a certain author for instance.

I know right? There’s only one PT panel that I can see on the schedule, and that’s a joint chat with Ian McDiarmid and Ray Park. The prequel films are the only live action SW films NOT being shown at the con.

I swear that I just dove into this subreddit a couple of days ago and bam, here you are with an article about it!
From my gatherings it seems like there’s a lot of love/hate for the prequels going on in the subreddit, but there generally seems to be more love if you manage to find the occasional serious talk instead of just random quotes from the movies. People defending them tend to get a lot of upvotes.
And even those that have more of a hate relationship with the movies seem to know every quote, which leads me to believe that they’re not really haters at all.
And the content is actually hilarious most of the time.

People of Youtube were having a lot of fun during the American Election season inserting the heads of Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders on Star Wars Characters during iconic Lightsaber Duels.

I could post some if that’s okay with LP. I don’t think they’re overly political. Quite a few of them are rather funny and the Prequel duels seem to be more popular.

Careful dude, if one side is only shown as a bad guy, that IS political.

      • Jacobesico Says:

I won’t post any then, but The Anakin/Obi-Wan duel in Revenge of The Sith is quite popular for parody. I’ve had a good laugh at them any rate. It’s nice to see the whole saga included.
