Terrific Version of “Battle of the Heroes”

December 12, 2016

Adam Adelsberger pointed out this video of a German orchestra performing “Battle of the Heroes” from ROTS.

Mash Up Trailer

December 12, 2016

Marshall posted a link to Film School Rejects, which has an interesting mash up of the trailer for “Jackie,” the biopic of former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, and Padmé from the prequels:

On that note, Natalie Portman scored Best Actress at last night’s Critics Choice Awards for her performance in “Jackie” and picked up her fourth Golden Globe nomination this morning.  Overachiever.

Rogue One, Spoilers, and You

December 9, 2016

With the formal premiere of Rogue One tonight in Hollywood, with the film being screened for critics this weekend, with the embargo being lifted on Tuesday or Wednesday, with early birds in Europe getting to see the film around that time, and evening shows on Thursday in North America, stuff will start to come out about the film.

1. On Friday December 16, I will have an open thread set up by sometime in the morning PST. If you are not seeing the film on Thursday-Friday, avoid this thread until you do. I will not see the film until Sunday 12/18, so don’t expect my review in the comments until then.

2. There will be NO prequel bashing, taunting, baiting, or fighting in the comments. Any such comments will be deleted and trolls will be forever banished. If it gets out of hand, I will shut down the open thread and delete the whole thing.

3. Do NOT post spoilers on any other comment thread or post until after December 23. Some of you can’t or won’t see the film for a while and it’s just not realistic in this age of the internet to expect everyone to keep quiet about the movie for several weeks or months.

4. Any posts or discussion tying in themes, events, etc. of Rogue One with the saga as a whole are fair game after December 23.

5. The rules will be a little looser on the Facebook page. I’ve put a moratorium on spoilers until December 19. I’ll link to the open thread but any and all spoilers are fair game as of Monday December 19.

New Stuff From UNIQLO

December 9, 2016

UNIQLO has made some cool and unique Star Wars t-shirts over the past couple of years.  It’s launching a whole lot more stuff to coincide with “Rogue One,” as evidenced by an event in London.  All  of the following photos are from Jedi News, which got to attend the party.  As you might imagine, most of the tees, jackets, patches, and pins are either from RO or the OT.  But a few new prequel tees managed to get included.

UNIQLO already has a ROTS tee available for $14.90!

A Couple Of Fanvids

Matril made a couple of fan vids recently, both PT-themed:

In Praise Of Qui-Gon

December 7, 2016

Eleven-Thirty Eight posted an essay called In Praise Of Qui-Gon: The Quiet Rebel which takes a look at the maverick Jedi:

Qui-Gon’s role has also been mildly controversial. Some lay the blame for everything bad that happens – from Anakin’s fall to the rise of the Empire – at his door. Others argue that the character should never have been included at all, and that Obi-Wan should have discovered Anakin Skywalker himself.

For me, though, not only is Qui-Gon the definitive Jedi, he is also crucial to our understanding of what they are, and what they should be. His philosophy and quietly rebellious nature is inspirational, and by exploring his relationship with the Jedi Council, we can learn everything we need to know about the Order and its mistakes.

ROTS & “Paradise Lost”

December 5, 2016

A reader passed along a link to this essay from a site called Clashing, “A Paradise Lost:  The Anatomy of a Fall.”  It focuses on Anakin’s fall in ROTS and compares it to John Milton’s “Paradise Lost.”

Anakin as a representation of temptation also parallels Eve and Adam as Palpatine slithers into the role of the serpent. Eve is amazed by the serpent who speaks of their gifts being bestowed upon them by tasting the fruit from the tree of knowledge. The serpent further gains Eve’s trust by flattering her beauty.

Palpatine gains Anakin’s trust by constant flattery, encouraging him to take pride in his exceptional skills and convincing him that despite his youth he deserves a spot on the Jedi Council. When fear begins to take hold of Anakin, Palpatine offers his own fruit to the falling Jedi: salvation from death. Anakin’s pride and fear feed into each other as his pride and arrogance don’t allow him to concede to the possibility that he might not save Padme. When Eve goes to wander Paradise alone, Adam fears for her.

SH Figurarts AOTC Padmé Revealed

These photos were posted on the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Facebook page:

I don’t know when it’ll be available but I think I’m going to get the entire AOTC set (Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padmé, etc.).
