That Time A Nazi War Criminal Was Tried In The “Queen’s Palace”

Recently I was reading a story on “The Vintage News” about the trial and execution of Nazi general Anton Dostler during WWII.  The marquee part of the story is the photo taken of Dostler moments before his execution by firing squad, but what grabbed my attention was this part:

Dostler became a prisoner of the Americans on 8 May 1945 and was put before a military tribunal at the seat of the Supreme Allied Commander, the Royal Palace in Caserta, on 8 October 1945.

The Royal Palace in Caserta, Italy doubled as the Queen’s Theed palace in both TPM and AOTC. If you check out the photo taken during Dostler’s trial, the background looks very familiar.

It is kind of cool when random stuff like this pops up and that Star Wars has added to the place’s already incredible history.

In case you’re wondering, Dostler was not plugged full of holes at Caserta; that was done at another location.
