Fantastic Take On The Prequels

These posts from Unreality are four years old but they are a great take on the prequels. I don’t know if I posted about them before but even if I have, so what? If they’re new to me, they might be to you too.

“Lucas broke the rules, just like he did in 1977.

I feel that the writer put it in a nutshell on why I have such little respect for this latest STAR WARS film.

Portman’s Padme bought top defined classical dramatic flair & persona throughout episodes 2 & 3 (under utilised in some plot threads), and within most of episode 1.

Christensen was really great to very good in the more soapy scene or situations that had clear dramatic undercurrents or beats of Anakin’s character, abit stiff in the more bravo/stoic type situations, & abit confused in the inbetween territory, which all suited the character’s depth.

Mccgregor was great in the more formal and clipped bravado of Obi-1, & it’s well doneness is more readily & widely understood due to the easier going type of character along with the performance.

I’ve read the first part & will now read the next 2. On the first part, excellent introductory piece & the author did a wonderful job of pinpointing what the real problem the naysayers have with PT: they wanted George to remake the OT. Even my sister, who does like PT, will complain sometimes about how George didn’t use models in certain shots. And I have pointed out to her that you are basically wanting George to not be George. He is an Innovator. He doesn’t just think outside the box. He breaks the box apart & turns it into an octagon😎 I haven’t seen the new movie yet, but despite what some critics are saying (“the magic is back”), I am very doubtful there will be anything unique or innovative about this film in terms of story and character. The critics & the PT bashers wanted nostalgia and re-hash of the OT. There are few things that JJ Abrams does better nostalgia & re-hash. Whether or not the film will be worth watching in 10 years is another matter😏

The comments after the first article are pretty much what you’d expect from the Lucas hateboys:

“There was CGI in every shot.”

    “Lucas raped my childhood/Star Wars.”

“The only reason Lucas made the prequels was to sell toys.”

“A New Hope was a good film because of Gary Kurtz, not Lucas.”

    And so on.
