Star Wars Locations Video

A couple of Scandinavians visited sites used for filming in Eps I-VI and even do fun stuff like recreate the scenes. It’s about an hour long. Check it out!

I can remember seeing pictures taken of the dessert locations shown in this video and the buildings had come under disrepair. Fans of the saga got together and restored the buildings, especially the one that was used in A New Hope – the Lar’s residence – Luke’s home. Unfortunately, the buildings are falling apart again. Hopefully fans will gather to restore them once more before they disappear into the dessert sands forever.

The sad thing is ot-purists/haters will just bash on the PT still. Recently on reddit there was this idiot who thought that the whole PT was cgi and he refused to watch it because of that. Heres the topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/3u05nb/is_there_an_alternative_way_to_get_the_story_of/

To be honest, I can’t stand watching videos bashing SW any more so I didn’t watch yours. You’re right though… haters are still whining about PT and they always will.

B-but I thought the prequels were completely CGI 😛

I’m not 100% positive that AOTC was filmed on location, but I’m pretty sure it was. I think I read it in an article somewhere. However, I am positive about fans restoring the buildings used (Luke’s home) because they were asking for donations from fellow fans.

Clones WAS filmed on location in Tunisia (Tatooine, including the restored Lars Homestead) and Italy (Naboo). The rest was done in a studio.

Yes, the location shooting lessened with each film (Phantom having the most and Sith having the least), but even when there was blue/green screen work, 90% of the replacement backgrounds were physical models. Only a miniscule amount (relatively speaking) of the environments were totally CGI, and those that were are still some of the highest quality in film history.

No matter where or how they were filmed, both were outstanding movies that added a lot to the saga.

One thing I will say is that Clones and Sith were shot digitally. Lucas should be commended for being a pioneer in digital filmmaking, but since Digital is a higher resolution, it’s that much harder to composite effects beliveably. I can understand if some people sensed an uncanny valley effect in Clones and Sith because of this and incorrectly blamed CGI (does not excuse the extremism or the backlash against the traditionally-filmed Phantom).

    P.S.
I think I saw in a video on youtube that Revenge was filmed mainly in the studio, except a few scenes so they may have filmed some of the movie in the dessert too. PM, the same… filmed on location.
