Are We Getting More Clone Wars Content?

While the rest of fandom is buzzing over John Landis’s allegations that Disney is going to issue pre-SE versions of Eps IV-VI, someone on Reddit claims we will see another story reel on star wars.com and a new Clone Wars-based comic in 2016:

In 2016 we’re going to get atleast two new TCW arcs as a story reel and as a comic to coincide with Ahsoka’s reappearance in Rebels and her upcoming fight with Vader *First is the Ahsoka Underworld Arc (Has not been officialy named yet) and it has production nr. 605-608 and will be released as a story reel on starwars.com
*Then we’re going to get a 5 issue miniseries made my Marvel Comics named Star Wars : The Invasion of Mandalore. The fourth episode was split into 2 issues since it was very action and story packed.

Is this for real? A total lie? We’ll find out soon enough but boy do I hope it’s true!

I could see them releasing more TCW content, but I’m not 101%.

I’m okay with Disney releasing the original theatrical versions (assuming anyone can actually agree what constitutes “original” since most of the films had tweaks while they were in theaters in their first runs) on two conditions.

First, George Lucas approves. If they’re doing this over his objection, then hell no. They’re his films (despite what Kathleen Kennedy says to fluff the fans).

And second, that Disney immediately crack down to remove all the “fan edits” on YouTube and other places on the web. If hateboys want the originals, fine, but you take the bad with the good. Thick matte lines, transparent snowspeeders, grainy footage — all of it. I want Disney’s lawyers throwing the fear of God into anyone who tries to post “their” improved versions with the shots from the SE they like but leaving in the stuff from the O-OT that they consider “holy” (like Han shooting first). Of course, that will never happen because in hateboys minds it’s their RIGHT to change the Star Wars movies however they want, but George Lucas can’t.

Well hopefully they can get rid of that monstrosity that is “The Phantom Edit” and all of the other edits to the prequels that “improve” them.

George told Landis about it? We’ll see…
Personally, I think it is very unlikely. But who knows, maybe GL is really enjoying his retirement and (pure speculation!) no longer that interested in SW in general (if true, tossing out his story treatments probably contributed to that). So maybe he is now fine with the release of the O-OT?

If true, shut up and take my money. At least to see some “I still complain about this actor” hateboys screaming around.

One thing I’m thinking of is that George Lucas (presumably) already approved of a “theatrical versions release”; they were “bonus discs” in a DVD re-release nine years ago. Unfortunately, those discs were sourced from the laserdiscs some people used to gloat about having and not in “anamorphic widescreen,” so they were criticized for not being just as good as the current DVD version and then just sort of forgotten about…

Nevertheless, I do find myself thinking this rumour just doesn’t quite feel right to me. There was supposed to have been a “steelcase”-packaged re-release even after the “digital” release; while I haven’t heard much about it (including whether it’s even come out yet), it seems odd there’d be yet another release in such close succession. For that matter too, as much as the whole marketing strategy for The Force Awakens seems to be “guess what’s going to happen” its merchandise is now out and I’d suppose the focus would be concentrating on it… Of course, I am wondering if this “not feeling right” amounts to Obi-Wan’s uncertainty about “the Sith in charge of the Senate” at the end of Attack of the Clones.

Why not just release the affected scenes in their original form as deleted scenes? Not the whole movie in its original form, just the altered portions.

  3. roxam91 Says:

It’s really hard for me to see the original theatrical versions released because of the whole “Fox owns ANH” thing. Besides, if Disney somehow was able to release the theatrical versions, then why didn’t it do so when the saga was released digitally?

Anyway, back on topic… Woo! More TCW is always good news for me!

  4. Andrew Weaver Says:

I’ve been disengaged with The Clone Wars since Season 3, and I’m going to be choosy with any future episodes I watch. Honestly though, I’m not going to be too interested with the “Legacy” release of stories intended for the last seasons until they reveal the intended ending and how that would’ve tied in with Episode 3. That, or extra details on the idea for the Vuzzah Vong episode.

  5. Bob Clark Says:

If we’re gonna get Clone Wars content, why not just finish the episodes that are already half finished or whatever? I honestly don’t care about a comics series or whatever. Not gonna read what was meant to be seen as a full television/cinematic experience.

Oh, and the OOT rumors– well gee, that would just be a terrible surprise wouldn’t it? We’re basically in geek Red Wedding territory here, and OT fanboys are the Lannisters.

  6. Jacobesico Says:

Just bring the Clone Wars back!

They should never have cancelled it in the first place!

As much as I love Star Wars Rebels, they should’ve finished what they have started.

Also, I was introduced to Star Wars via the Special editions so I really couldn’t care less about the unaltered versions.

  7. zch81721 Says:

Yeah how many times has the pre-special edition rumor been floating around. Won’t be surprised if this is another hoax.

  8. Sergey Holod Says:

To cancel “The Clone Wars” – when there were so many stories in development – is a crime against art.

And especially Asajj Ventress’ fate! How could one cancel the series when there were so many potentials in a single character!

It is just another proof that studio producers don’t really care about anything. One could even suppose that they don’t even care about money, if they can cancel the series that achieved global success – if they can cancel the series that achieved its creative peak and promised dozens of great episodes.

I’m not overexcited about new Mandalorian episodes. I would prefer to see the continuation of existing unfinished storylines and especially about Asajj Ventress because her importance is crucial for “The Clone Wars”. She is as important for “The Clone Wars” as Anakin Skywalker for Episodes I – VI. I think the development of her character was intended as the key structural element of the whole series. I am maybe wrong. Yet we will never see that in all probability.

P.S. They must release the theatrical cut of “the original trilogy” for historical and educational purposes. But I can’t imagine “Star Wars” without Alfred Newman’s fanfare in the beginning!!!

  9. Nick Skywalker Says:

More TCW would be great, but I’d rather it be from the storyline they had left, for the fan’s sake. And I’m somewhat uneasy about the mouse bringing it back.

How about instead of releasing O-OT and once again relying on nostalgia to hype up this film (which is failing more than they’ll admit), they I don’t know release a full trailer?! Dumb, dumb, dumb. Since word on the street is tickets go on sale next month, should be interesting to see how fast they sell.

    • roxam91 Says:

“More TCW would be great, but I’d rather it be from the storyline they had left”

All TCW content released so far (and potentially released in the future) will always be from the story they had left.

  10. Alessio Pasquali Says:

I’m saying the Force is strong with this Clone Wars rumor.
