TPM Shakespeare Parody Cover Revealed

Bonnie Burton at CNet gave an exclusive peek at the cover art for Ian Doerscher’s Shakespeare-style retelling of TPM. The book is due out April 7.

Better yet, Quirk Books will publish similar parodies of AOTC and ROTS this year.

“The prequels are happening because time and time again, people approached me at readings of the ‘William Shakespeare’s Star Wars’ books and asked, hopefully, if I was going to write the prequels,” Doescher told Crave. “This was especially true for young people, for whom the prequels ARE Star Wars.”

And…

“Shakespeare fans, I think, will appreciate having the full arc of Anakin Skywalker completed — the six-book series becomes The Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, and his downfall in Episode III is as Shakespearean as ‘Hamlet,’ ‘Macbeth’ or ‘King Lear,'” Doescher told Crave. “In other words, the ‘Shakespeare’s Star Wars’ prequel trilogy maintains the elements of the original books and adds a slew of new surprises!”

Fantastic! Amidala fits perfectly for the cover. I know they have the boxset of these for IV-VI. I’m waiting for the inevitable boxset of I-III Hopefully they do a boxset of all 6 together….

Best news I’ve heard about the prequels since learning they would be shown in 3-D at CVII. Wonderful idea, concept and love the cover. And yes, boxsets would be fantastic and I would buy them, too.

No, he’s wrong. Nobody likes those movies. They’re awful. Someone’s playing a joke on him. Oh, the poor deluded fool…

More evidence supporting the dead theory of Disney brushing aside the PT! Very good news!

While these books are of course perfectly lovely and fabulous news – and these, at least, I might be inclined to check out, as opposed to the OT/Shakespeare mash-up which just didn’t grab me when I thumbed through one or two of ’em – they don’t in themselves “put paid” to the claims, presumption, or the most definite feeling that Disney in one way and another has been endeavouring to brush aside the PT, or sweep it under the carpet outright. The books, fantastic to se, but they don’t mean that Disney’s doing any great degree of right by the PT generally. They’re not the whole story, and when that story – so far as we know it at present, or what we’ve seen of it, anyway – is just so thoroughly disheartening to PT fans….well….even book releases like this can’t exactly kindle any great faith in them – not after everything else we’ve seen and hear to unfortunately, apparently, counter that….
