Undeniable Fact About ROTS #8: It Used Art Design From The Holiday Special

Ah, “The Star Wars Holiday Special.” The infamous 1978 show that gave us Chewbacca’s family, the first glimpse of the Wookiee home world Kashyyyk, Bea Arthur as a bartender, Jefferson Starship, Diahann Carroll, and a singing Princess Leia.

Ralph McQuarrie had done the concept art for the show, designing the giant trees and houses that the Wookiees called home. More than 20 years later, people working on art design for ROTS dusted off McQuarrie’s art and adapted it for the movie.

Despite it’s, ahem, infamous reputation, there’re some aspects of the Holiday Special I enjoy: Bea Arhtur’s performance (I want an action figure of Ackmena so badly) and that wonky cartoon segment where we’re first introduced to Boba Fett.

The holiday special was a bit before my time, so I never saw it, its not my prefered era anyways so I dont plan on seeing it. Regardless of my personal feelings about ot and its era I respect anyone who picks the good fight and defends somthing that desperatly needs defense, Im just not going to be part of that defense.
