Undeniable Fact About AOTC #11: It’s The Longest Star Wars Film To Date

Most of the Star Wars films clock in around 2 hours and some change, with ROTJ being a little longer at 2 hours and 15 minutes. But AOTC reigns with the lengthiest running time at 2 hours and 22 minutes (the full digital cut anyway, not the IMAX or alternate cuts).

The crazy thing is I remember reading some criticisms that AOTC should have been longer but I chalk that up to 3-hour-plus running times being the vogue at the time.

AOTC could have been longer, because there are some good deleted scenes and Lucas painlessly cut some scenes to its core, which makes it sometimes hard for one-time or casual viewers to understand it fully. But it’s no must. It works the way it is.

I’m certainly glad Star Wars was not one of those film series that found it hip to make 5-hour films….

    3 hour AOTC? Yes please!!
