Undeniable Fact About AOTC #28: It Brought Christopher Lee To Star Wars

How many actors get not one but two big epic movie series at the same time? Especially ones in their 80s? Not many but Sir Christopher Lee sure did. Lee did double duty as Saruman in the LOTR flicks (also the later Hobbit movies) and as Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus in AOTC, the apprentice who replaced Darth Maul. Dooku was different from the Sith Lords we’d seen in Star Wars thus far. All of the other Sith were freaks. Dooku wasn’t deformed, covered with tattoos, or stuck inside a walking life support machine. He had been a Jedi, an honorable one, before somehow turning into Sidious’s ally.

If you ask me, whatever they shelled out to bring Lee aboard was well worth it. He made Dooku a memorable, interesting, and menacing villain.

He was the perfect foil for Obi-Wan. Dooku had that same highly “civilized” air about him that Obi-Wan had, almost like he was above it all. I absolutely love the way he taunts Kenobi while holding him captive and then later in their duel in AOTC. Christopher Lee added gravitas whenever he appeared on screen.

Christopher Lee is one of my favorite actors of all time, and Dooku’s lightsaber is by far the coolest.

I’m so glad he’s still alive and kicking..ass. I’ve watched him since his Dracula days.
