TPM New “Year 0” In Saga Timeline?

Leland Chee cryptically tweeted this out:

It looks as though the story group is resetting the old BBY/ABY timeline and TPM will now be “Year 0” instead of ANH. Which makes sense if you think about it. TPM is the chronological beginning of the saga.

That kind of makes sense to me and really keeps all the movies as part of the official saga, regardless of the prequel trilogy currently being on the back burner by Disney.

  2. slicer87 Says:

This will piss off the hateboys LOL. The important thing is this will help ensure the prequels won’t be completely forgotten.

    Hello,

Sorry to go on another topic. The full podcast with Rian Johnson (director of Episode VIII) is online : http://www.filmspotting.net/reviews/1194-500-live-rian-johnson-interview-top-5-films-of-the-filmspotting-era.html

Discussion about the Prequels starts at 45:20.

I don’t hear anyone “booing” the prequels, as the journalist reported. The presenter even says he is a defender of those films !

    • PrinceOfNaboo Says:

Thanks for the link, piccolojr1138. I have to listen to it later.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the “booing” turns out to have been another haters’ legend…that’s what media creates the most, these days.

As for the new timeline: I’d welcome the change and I also think it woul piss off Hateboys 🙂

    • Brian McVickar Says:

Nice interview – and I love that it took place at the Music Box theater in Chicago, my old stomping grounds! Good, positive comments regarding the prequels from both Rian and the interview host, which is great to hear, and the only response from the audience was when Rian promoted watching the saga as 4-6, then 1-3, which is not a big deal.

WOW! This is awesome, i’ve never thought about ep 1 being the begining on the calander. This actually makes sense in universe as well as out, I mean this was the end of the 1000 year pece in the Republic technecaly and the rise to power of palpatine. AWESOME THIS SO make up for any back-hand bashing anyone high up has done previously!

  5. peacetrainjedi Says:

In the old BBY system, the in-universe reason they gave for having it be that date was the Battle of Yavin and destruction of the first Death Star being such a monumental event. I wonder what the new in-universe explanation will be. In other words, what will they choose to be the new monumental event? The reemergence of the Sith? Or the discovery of the Chosen One? I’m guessing on the latter; and am really hoping for it as it reinforces the idea that the Star Wars Saga is essentially the story of Skywalker. Overall, I think this is a good change and one I can get behind.

  6. Firebird2110 Says:

I can’t see this as an IN-universe thing at all. It makes zero sense. It’s a way for new and casual fans to keep track of when things happen ready for Disney’s movie a year production schedule.

Sorry to go on another topic again, but a new trailer of a chinese film with Hayden Christensen and Nicolas Cage has been released.

  8. Keith Palmer Says:

Anything that gives us “prequel appreciators” a chance to get away from dwelling on the thought “poor us; we’ve been written off” is good to me. My impression that “BBY/ABY” was a product of the books, though, does remind me of an impression that “EU fans,” who I’m afraid I’ve tended to associate since the 1990s with a “Star Wars is serious stuff” attitude that seemed destined to link up with “prequel hostility” (and which has kept me from reading Star Wars novels, regardless of when they’re set, since the turn of the millennium) are that much more convinced right now they’ve been written off…

  9. Obi-Rob Says:

Yet another win for George Lucas’s Star Wars Saga and another loose for the EU/PT hateboy Nazi crowd!

    Take that haters.

  10. Hunk a Junk Says:

Now Lucasfilm should just phase out official use of the terms “prequel trilogy” and “original trilogy.” With this new timeline, the word “prequel” no longer is appropriate. I’d prefer them calling episodes I-III something like the “Republic trilogy” or the “Jedi Order trilogy.” If Lucasfilm can make such big changes as invalidating all the EU, they can make this happen. It’s a signal to the hateboys they’re moving on with the saga as a whole.

  11. It's a me-a. Says:

There was a reddit topic on this yesterday. The general consensus was that year 0 should be ROTS, not TPM, given the importance of the creation of the Empire and Palpatine’s rise to Emperor.
Oddly enough, there was no raging.

  12. starwarsanon Says:

Hmmm…I am in favor of this. It definitely helps keep the united front going forward in the SW storyline.

This may be of interest to some of you…

  14. Adam D. Bram (The Nilbog) Says:

So Anakin was only 45 when he died? I thought he was older….

  15. piccolojr1138 Says:

    It’s a trap 😦
