Paper Comparing Anakin and Othello

While poking around, I came across this paper on the Lone Star College website, which compares Shakespearian tragic hero Othello with Anakin, particularly in ROTS. I don’t agree with all of his points, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

It is a fitting and interesting comparison, but I too disagree with some points. Mainly that Anakin didn’t pay for his crimes. He paid by being sliced and burnt to such a degree that he needed to become more machine than man to survive, and that breathing suit looks anything but comfortable.

Not only do I disagree with his comments that Anakin didn’t pay for his crimes, I also disagree with the indication that his arrogance led to his downfall. I agree that Anakin was arrogant. But so where the other major characters. But as we all know, it was Anakin’s willingness to do anything to “save” Padme – his attachment to her – that really led to his downfall.
