Star Wars Madness

I know I’m a few days late on this one but with all of the distraction I failed to notice that starwars.com is running some sort of March Madness favoritism game involving Star Wars characters. Yeah, it’s totally rigged (Leia vs. Padmé right off the bat? Come on.) but support your favorite characters.

I feel cheated I can’t vote for Anakin Skywalker :/.

And I feel cheated I can’t vote for Jar Jar, Sebulba, or Watto.

And, really, if you think about it, Jar Jar would be a shoo-in. You’d have all of us continually voting for him because we genuinely love him, then you’d have the trolls voting for him because “wouldn’t it be hilarious if Jar Jar of all people won this stupid thing? Hero Derp!”

    Well? Am I wrong?

Also, no Nute Gunray on the list? Is that legal?

How can they have Dengar on there and not have Nute Gunray? At least Bossk and IG-88 “look” cool and both the Trandoshans and IG droid series are well-liked throughout the fandom. But Dengar? He has a couple short stories to his name and an irrelevant Clone Wars cameo. Does starwars.com hate The Phantom Menace that much that they cannot include Jar Jar or Nute Gunray? Also, where is Bail Organa? He’s one of the most pivotal characters in Episode III!

And regarding the Anakin omission, I realize why they did it. But, they should have written Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker) at least in parentheses or in a smaller font or something And they should have used a split picture like they did in tons of Episode III promotional art.

Now THAT would really piss off the haters, wouldn’t it? The only way to vote for Darth Vader is to click for a picture that is half Hayden Christensen and half Vader!

Interesting…I can vote from my computer, but then when I visit the site on my phone it gives me the option to vote again.

That’s very interesting. It would be a shame if someone exploited this already rigged contest.

    A massive shame.

Yeah the format on this thing is wonky. In a 64 team bracket you always take the best team and match them up against the worst, rewarding teams that played well by allowing them basically “warmup” games before they face stiffer competition.

So using the Star Wars character analogy someone like Leia or Padme should go up against Kitster, Captain Tarpils or General Dodonna. These first round matchups are painfully stupid and a number of characters that otherwise would have gone far in the competition will be eliminated.

I went to check the board again, and the site told me to take a survey. I told them that the site was largely “meh” and would be 100000% better if it represented and celebrated all six films equally. I think we should keep hammering this home.

Leia only beat out Padme by a mere 4%, and Jango and Dooku made it past the first round. Let’s keep it up!
