Actor Christian Simpson, who played one of the Naboo pilots in TPM and worked as Hayden Christensen’s stand-in on the set of ROTS, posted his final tale from the set:
However the kids aren’t reacting scared because on set, the scary moment is just Hayden slightly moving his finger on the lightsabre. To solve this, on take 3 Hayden rather cruelly takes advantage of this and just after the boy has delivered his lines, gives an almighty ROAAAARRRRR! to the unsuspecting kids! This sends the boy running back to behind his chair in absolute terror. Cruel, but very funny! And that’s the shot you see in the movie.

That reminds me of the scene in “Stand By Me” where Gordie and Vern are trying to outrun the train. Of course, the train was added in later, and Jerry O’Connell, who played Vern, was having trouble looking suitably scared and tearful during the takes. Rob Reiner solved this problem by screaming at him until he cried prior to doing another take.
