Did you see the positive TPM reference in “1600 Penn”?
The president’s goofy son asked a mail clerk to a ball, and upon seeing her all dressed up and he compares her favorably to Queen Amidala (I forget the exact wording and can’t find the clip)

Found it on the DVR:
Stacy: “Is this okay? I wasn’t sure…”
Skip: “Shut your beautiful, magical mouth. You look so elegant…like Queen Amidala but when she’s dressed as Padme – not too showy but still super hot and ready to take on the Trade Federation.”
Stacy: “Thanks…believe it or not, that’s kind of what I was going for.”
I clapped at that.

I have a piece of those weeds from the picnic. I love AotC and consider it the “prettiest” of all the films – and I miss the real place of Naboo in RotS. Plus AotC is still full of hope and RotS…well…ya…that’s where the story has to go.

Taking Linda’s lead, I beg to differ that it’s not Anakin and Padme making the galaxy prettier, but GL’s immense visual prowess, the beautiful choice of locations, the startling art direction, the gorgeous colours, and the ambitious, epic framings (AOTC has long looked (and felt!) the “widest” to me), which all goes back — takes us full circle — to GL’s immense visual prowess again: his vision, his tenacity, his choices. That still of A&P in the meadow has an ungodly immensity to it. Can’t you just feel that amazing scope? I dunno. I’m seduced by crazy-good compositions. Cool that you grabbed some weeds, Linda. I like the way both characters are nervously playing with grass throughout that scene. Some very clever directing choices in this middle installment: in many ways, my favourite prequel, I think. (I do go back and forth a bit).
Anyway, nice mock-ups, LP. The “Six Pack” one does it for me. It’s actually a pretty decent motivational (motti-vader-nal) poster. Like, hey, get your act together, guys, and *try* and look as good as Hayden Christensen. Never mind its Grecian-hero subject, though. I’m just a sucker for that set design and lighting — and the way GL gives you only a sparing glimpse of what he put his lead performer through to attain. Poor HC. His Vader-ish hulk is more implied than shown in ROTS, but that really says a lot about the tonal disposition of the film generally, doesn’t it? Hell, I like staring at those little light panels flanking the door, too. They were very halo-ed and diffuse-looking in AOTC; in ROTS, they’re sharp as a whisker (a nice difference in the cinematographic approach of the two movies). Trouble brewing in that shot. There’s a moody effervescence at work: Anakin turning his back on his wife and finding solace in black, the dark blues of the walls that lock him in, the sickly-green cityscape in the background… and Anakin walking into the closet. Don’t monsters normally lurk there?
Yikes. And you thought this was just about some funny posters you made, didn’t you?
