I saw this linked through TFN and initially, it is typical of internet geek media treatment of the PT. You know, “I have to qualify my grudging respect for the PT by saying something hateful about it too.” He even presumes to be the arbiter of who’s a real SW fan by saying no real SW fan would love the PT. Normally, I wouldn’t bother with this sort of thing but it is interesting to see that 1) the guy seems to covertly like the movies but doesn’t want to admit it and 2) how his attempts to placate the haters don’t work. It’s also nice to see I wasn’t the only one propping the PT in the response section
.
Even if you don’t read it, his article gave me an idea! How about each day I post on what is awesome about the PT? And yes, you guys can send in what you think rocks about the PT too!

I must say that I’m a bit tired of this ‘real Star Wars fan’ phrase. Depending upon who you listen to a ‘real Star Wars fan’ loves the films and hates the EU. Or loves the original trilogy and hates the prequels. Or loves the unaltered original trilogy and hates the special editions. Or even loves only Episodes IV and V and hates everything else. Enough, I say. No more of this “what a ‘real Star Wars fan’ should love/hate” nonsense.

I’ll second that!
I guess I’m not a “real” because I LOVE all the films, and enjoy the EU. These people really need to get over it, and move on with their lives!

I posted a response to the original article and I said, “That would be a shock to anyone who has known me over the past 30 years.” It’s especially amusing when somebody born loooong after 1977 wants to presume who’s a real fan and who isn’t.

“It’s especially amusing when somebody born loooong after 1977 wants to presume who’s a real fan and who isn’t.”
I hear that!
Just ask my family how much of a fan I am. For the past three decades, at that! I’m 35 now, I remember “back in the day” I been on this ride since 1977, and it just keeps getting better. Back then there was NOTHING to compare Star Wars too. We had to rely on own imaginations too fill the gaps. But thanks too genius of Lucas, Episodes I, II, & III not only filled in those gaps, they are what gives Episodes IV, V & VI their emotional impact!
But what do I know, I’m not a real fan anyway! I’ve only seen all the films countless times. Watch the Droids and Ewoks cartoon hour every Saturday morning. Read some EU books and spent way TOOOOO much money (with NO regret) on collectibles and toys.
