It was my intent with this site not to dwell too much on bashers and prequel-haters, but every now and then, I have to respond to some of the crudola we’re up against.
Some hack on Mess-NBC wrote a piece on “Lackluster Blockbusters” and of course Target #1 was the PT. Not only that, he starts to think the OT sucked too. He blames Lucas for “ruining everything” with “lazy, cynical” writing and caring more about special effects than anything else.
Granted this moron also beat up on the Spider Man flicks, E.T., Titanic, and Home Alone among other hits, but it goes to show you the problem too many in fandom choose to either ignore or start parroting. I’ve been very critical of how Lucasfilm doesn’t seem to notice or care about how this constant drumbeat of “the PT sucks” hurts its interests. Three years after ROTS, the black hats are still at it. Our work is cut out for us.

What kind of response could LFL give? To address the flames at all is to become mired in things which are, ultimately, a matter of opinion. Further, they risk the viability of the brand.
The prequels are what they are. The thing to keep in mind is that the age group who were ten years old back when TPM came out are about 18-20 today. The volume from the haters will eventually become balanced (if not drowned out) by the group of kids who were weened on the PT and see that trilogy as *the* SW trilogy. In fact, you’re already starting to see a temperance of those attitudes in a lot of web forums. This is a trend that will only continue and grow over time.
I think history will look back kindly on the PT. I don’t think Pirates of the Caribbean or even LOTR have that same guarantee by any stretch of the imagination.

I’m sick of these morons! Granted, I didn’t, and will NOT read this or any other articles anymore. I’ve read many articles in the past that would start out as a nice little article about Star Wars and by the end they would go out of their way to rip apart Lucas and or the PT! It does hurt it! I’ve meet a few people that won’t see them because of negative articles/reviews like these. Tools, if you ask me. Instead of experiencing something for themself and then deciding whether or not it’s for you, some people actually look to these morons for guidance. I say the numbers speak for them self, the films broke records and filled in movie theaters the summer of their releases. The dvd sales are still strong. And after TPM came out, the Star Wars fan club tripled! And is still growing, thanks to the PT!
I too wish Lucas, as well as Star Wars.com/ Insider would address these things too. And set the record strait.

Well said colors!
You put it much more elegantly than I did.

Ah yes, Lucas ruined movies with SW, all he cares about is special effects. It’s like these hacks consult “Lucas/SW-Bashing for Dummies” before they write their latest tripe.

and this is why I rarely post at any of the SW sites when, at one point, I was on all of them daily. The bashers are most definitley there too – actually some have become revisionists who once loved RotS and now choose to trash everything prequel. I always wonder why they waste their time if they hate them so much.

I don’t understand why these guys waste their time either. What does it say about you if you spend most of your time on something you supposedly hate?
